If the individual meets all requirements set by the jurisdiction, their overseas licence will be exchanged for an equivalent class of Australian licence based on their driving experience and age at the time they began driving in that particular jurisdiction. For individuals possessing a Hong Kong driver’s licence, they must be at least 25 years old and have held their license for a minimum of 12 months in order to exchange it without being subject to any additional testing, Drivers from certain countries and over the age of 25 can exchange their foreign driver’s license for an Australian one without having to take any tests. However, those under 25 will be required to take both a written and practical driving test. If they pass these tests, their overseas licence will be converted to the appropriate class based on their age and years of driving experience in that specific Australian jurisdiction.
